Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

My Thoughts:

5 stars - Combining a hot sexy story with real life issues in a brilliant New Adult read!

If you've read my reviews regular then you know I LOVE Jennifer L Armentrout.  I love her paranormal, young adult, contemporary, her adult and now add to that her New Adult.  Writing as J. Lynn, this new book from her is possibly her best.

Starting with the guy, big surprise to you guys I know.  Cam. Everyone wants to know how he compares to Daemon.  The answer is that he DOES compare to Daemon.  Very few males can even stand in that boys shadow but Cam can.  He's tall, gorgeous and every girl on campus would jump at the chance to go out with him.  Everyone, except for Avery.  But Cam only has eyes for her.  I loved his patience.  I loved his confidence.  I loved his persistence.  I loved his sneaky ways of getting time with her.  I loved that when the time came, he...oh wait, I can't tell you that.  Well, lets just say that the boy did things right.  The hard things. The nice things.  The considerate things.  The angry things.  All the things.  But he's not perfect. Oh no, he's made mistakes, big ones. But those mistakes were so much a part of who he is that I still loved him.  I loved how much he loved his sister.  I loved his relationship with his family.  I loved his turtle Raphael.  I loved his Valentines Day gift to Avery.  I loved his roommate, Ollie.  I loved his other friend, Jase. (Oh, I'm so hoping for a Jase book - please Jennifer, please).  I loved his anger.  I loved his frustration.  I loved Cam completely.

Now, Avery.  She is broken.  She thinks it's beyond repair.  I totally get why she felt that way.  No one was ever there for that girl.  Her friends deserted her.  Her parents dropped the ball in the most unacceptable, get my mama claws out kinda way.  Her cousin let her down.  She had no one.  And yes, she made a mistake that let herself down as well.  She has run for 5 years only surviving, never living.  She may feel broken but she's stronger than she understands.  The fact that she moved away from the torture that was her life and faced a world along is incredibly strong.  She faces life and begins to heal.  That healing has so much to do with Cam.  His patience.  His cocky confidence.  His tenderness.  She blossoms.  But she took the steps to make it happen.  She found the strength.  She found the way to him.  And she found a way to be even stronger with him, for him.  I was so proud of her as I read the end.  She was truly the reason I couldn't put this book down and stayed up until 4AM finishing it.

The story is well paced with lots of steam.  It's easy to see Avery's past but the whole story is just on the edge of it.  I was surprised and overwhelmed when I finally knew all of it.  Could see that Cam had a secret too but again the details were still a surprise.  I liked that.  It fed both sides of my reader self.  The part that loves to figure things out ahead of time and the part of me that loves the surprises.  I'm not sure an author has ever accomplished both so fabulously for me.

JLA says that this is her favorite book that she has ever written.  It shows.  Truly it does.

It's definitely New Adult and shouldn't be read by those under 18, but everyone else NEEDS to pick this up immediately!

About the author:

 J. Lynn, also known as Jennifer L. Armentrout, is the USA TODAY Bestselling author of the adult romance Gamble Brothers’ series, the young adult Lux Series and award winning Covenant Series. She pretty much writes everything—contemporary, paranormal, and fantasy. All of her books have one thing in common no matter the name or genre: kissing… and stuff. When she’s not busy writing, which is never, she’s usually hanging out with dog Loki, watching reruns of The Walking Dead, or procrastinating on the Internet.
