Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker ~ Tour Stop & Giveaway

TEN TINY BREATHS Synopsis:

Just breathe, Kacey. Ten tiny breaths. Seize them. Feel them. Love them.

Four years ago Kacey Cleary’s life imploded when her car was hit by a drunk driver, killing her parents, boyfriend and best friend. Still haunted by memories of being trapped inside, holding her boyfriend’s lifeless hand and listening to her mother take her lastbreath, Kacey wants to leave her past behind. Armed with two bus tickets, twenty year old Kacey and her fifteen year old sister Livie escape Grand Rapids, Michigan to start over in Miami. Struggling to make ends meet, Kacey needs to figure out how to get by. But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle anything—anything but her mysterious neighbor in apartment 1D.

Trent Emerson has smoldering blue eyes, deep dimples, and perfectly skates that irresistible line between nice guy and bad boy. Hardened by her tragic past, Kacey is determined to keep everyone at a distance, but their mutual attraction is undeniable and Trent is determined to find a way into Kacey’s guarded heart—even if it means that an explosive secret could shatter both their worlds.

My Thoughts:

5 stars - Snarky, broken girl

OMG. This book. My friend, Heather Self, told me to read this book weeks ago.  I was busy.  I put it off.  WHAT was I thinking?  This book is freaking fabulous.  It has a snarky broken girl that vents through kick-boxing.  She will kick your a$$ before you even know what happened.  And she is SO not interested in the boyfriend kinda thing.  No. She's into protecting her fifteen year old younger sister from creeps and putting food on the table.  All her anger, pain and misery is hidden deep inside her along with the rest of her.  She died that day in the car accident or the best part of her did.

But sexy Trent does things to get through her cracks.  He finds ways to make her laugh.  He brings some happiness back into her life.  He's so patient with her bat-shit crazy ways.  He gets her.  And she's starting to get him.  And I love Trent.  I do.  But he's just as broken as Kacey, just in a different way.  He needs her as much as she needs him.

I wasn't sure that two people this broken could survive.  I stressed and really needed some virtual hand holding but alas it was 1AM and such was not to be had.  With my eyes glued to my iPad, I wore it's poor little battier right down to almost nothing but I finished it with no hand to hold.  I'm so glad too because the ending had me weeping with happiness.

Obviously, if I stayed up half the night reading it, the pacing was fabulous.  The pages flew by and I read it in a day.

This book is new adult.  It may or may not be labeled that way but it is what it is.  There's some language and sexual content that makes it so.  If you read the New Adult scene, then this book needs to rise to the TOP of your list and I mean NOW.  Do. Not. Ignore me on this one.  Pick it up and read it.  You will thank me.  Oh and thanks, Heather.  You were right.

  6. I've been debating reading this. I've read some really positive reviews, but then also some negative ones. I do think it sounds great though, I'm a sucker for books with damaged MCs so I'm sure I'll pick it up sooner or later. Great review!

  24. I like that the main characters are from Michigan, which is where I'm from originally. I also love a book where the tenants of an apartment complex make up the main cast of characters.
