5 stars -  A great YA read that has the perfect balance of paranormal, friendship and romance.
  
I loved that this book was about a friendship, a long friendship.  A friendship so strong that one would risk their life for the other.  A friendship so strong that even when they fought they would reach to the other for help.  A friendship so strong that forgiveness is possible.  A friendship so strong that it's painful to watch the other with someone else.  That's what this book is about.

Delaney is forever changed after the eleven minutes she spends under the water and no one gets her anymore except Troy.  She feels her best friend, Decker, slipping away too.  But all is not as it appears and perhaps this experience has helped her find out who she really is, how she really feels.  Getting the grades and playing things safe is who she used to be but not maybe she should take the chances that she would if it were her last day to live.

Troy is a character that  felt sorry for but didn't really like.  His choices were disturbing but I get that he was also dramatically changed by his coma.  I just wasn't Team Troy.

Decker is riddled with guilt.  He left his best friend in the middle of the ice covered lake when he knew she was uncomfortable walking out there.  She fell and the ice broke.  But really he's the hero that pulled her out, risked his own life for her because she's his best friend.  I love Decker.  I wanted to smack him upside the head a few times but I love him.  He struggles with his feeling throughout the book.  Some of his reactions were off but the last reaction he had right.  I loved the ending.

The pacing is great and I read it pretty fast.  Two sitting was all it took.

I guess I thought this was a stand along, but it's not.  There is a prequel and I  picked that up right after and read it - very short, only 28 pages. It's a great addition to the story, I loved seeing things through Decker's eyes! He gives us the details of those eleven minutes from his POV and the 6 days in the hospital waiting for Delaney to wake up.  And there is a book 2.  I've interested to see what will happen next.

This is a great YA read that has the perfect balance of paranormal, friendship and romance.  Definitely worth the read!
