Breaking Lauren By Jordan Deen ~ Review

Source:  Received eBook copy from author

My Summary:

Lauren wants the perfect marriage her parents HAD.  They don't have it any longer and her cheating father and angry mother have moved her to California to start over and try and save their marriage.  It's Lauren chance to get out of the light of her older bother and sister.  She wants the popularity of the in crowd.  She wants the perfect relationship Josh represents.  And he's noticing her too.  This move could bring her all her dreams except...for the confusing feelings she has for the bad boy Danny.  Home from juvie, Danny fights for his money literally.  He doesn't do relationships and all he wants is to survive till he can get out of here and away from his judgmental dad.   Too bad he never counted on meeting Lauren.

My Thoughts:

2 stars - I really wanted to love this book

The set-up in this book was perfect for me taste.  I really was excited about reading it.  Love those bad boy books and Danny is my perfect kind of bad boy.  And I really did love Danny.  He was in juvie for beating up the guy that took his sisters v-card only to dump her the next day.   I cannot blame him for that, really.  But then when he got out, his family treat him like a criminal and he becomes one to survive.  This boy is so loveable it's crazy.  I wanted to cuddle him for sure.  What was more, his reactions to Lauren are crying out for her to help him.  Perfect set up.

I really had a hard time with Lauren.  I felt like she was inconsistent and moody.  Her whole life depended on having what her parents had but they didn't have what she thought they did.  It was clear to her but she never saw it.  I really wanted to reach in the book and smack her.  I just didn't like her and that made me sad.

I struggled with the story itself.  There were too many unexplained things and that can't be seen anywhere better than the ending.  I turned the page and was like,...WTH???  I ran to check goodreads to see if this was a series.  I have never seen a stand-a-lone end with a cliffhanger before.  It doesn't show that it's a series but I finally found a second book by the author that continues the story.  I really do want to know what happens to Danny so I'll probably read it.

I wanted to love this book, really I did.  But I just didn't like Lauren.

There are lots of peeps who loved this story so it may just be me here.  Please check out their reviews below.

  1. It's too bad that Lauren isn't a very likable character. I have a hard time when characters aren't easy to like, or at least somehow connect with them. The other characters sound good though. Great review!!

  4. What a nicely done review. I felt the same way. I absolutely loved Danny, but wanted to give Lauren and kick in the butt. The cliffhanger at the end killed me. I will read the next book because I want to know what happened. I hope my opinion of Lauren will change.
