Where do the characters come from? By Rhiannon Paille + GIVEAWAY

RIP talks about where her starcrossed lovers "Kaliel" and "Krishani" came from . . .

I was 13 when I first met Kaliel and Krishani. I had just visited Disney World with my parents, just met a boy at a water park who changed my life forever, and just had my binder stolen by my forever arch enemy. I had also just finished reading The Hobbit and while I was sitting at a desk in the community class area (which is horribly awkward to explain) I had a flash of a girl with white hair and green eyes.

Back then I used to write short horror stories because in Grade 6 I got kicked out of my English class for being too smart. I came up with a lot of stories, none of which were any good and all of which got lost.

I had more dreams about the girl with the white hair and green eyes.

In January of 2006 I decided I had to write this story. Originally, I saw everything from Kaliel's perspective. She helped me build Avristar, the Elders, her friend Pux, and Krishani. He was emo, broody and dark. Originally I called him a Watcher until one day I discovered he was a Death Walker. Every culture has them, the Norse Valkyries, the Grim Reapers, Davy Jones, and the Greek Ferryman. Because it made a great series title I decided to call Krishani the Ferryman.

Kaliel herself was peculiar, brave, naive, innocent, enchanting, and one of a kind. I didn't know she was a Flame until later. Research on the Flames uncovered The Violet Flame, as connected to Eastern Mythology, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. She told me everything about the other Flames.

I finished the first draft in June of 2009, knowing nothing about the publishing industry.I sent it to a friend to read, and then revised, edited, revised again, and wrote the second and third books. After living with Kaliel and Krishani in my head for more than a decade (we're going on 15 years this year) I know them like the back of my hand and trying to sum them up in a paragraph doesn't do them justice.

What I can say is that they lived one of the greatest love stories, and I'm honored to be the author that gets to tell their story.

If you really want to get to know Kaliel and Krishani you need to fall into their story and let yourself be swept away by it.

Flame of Surrender

Kaliel and Krishani weren't meant to meet . . . or fall in love . . . but they did. Krishani’s dreams of death lead him to a fate he’s terrified of - becoming the next Ferryman. His only refuge is Kaliel, the peculiar girl that swims with merfolk and talks to trees. Kaliel has a secret, she’s the Amethyst Flame, one of nine apocalyptic weapons. The Valtanyana will destroy everything on Avristar to get to her. Kaliel has to choose: face them, hide or unleash the Flame.

How far would you go to save everything you ever loved?
