Spellcaster by Cara Lynn Shultz

Source:  NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review

Spoilers for book one, Spellbound.  Do not read if you haven't read that book.

My Summary:

Emma and Brendan should be basking in the light of true love after breaking the centuries old cruse that kept them separated but not everyone is happy about their ending.  Someone wants revenge for the wrongs they perceive of the past and power that only the true lovers blood can provide.  Another is just jealous of Emma having Brendan's affection.  Together they are out to destroy the hard fought for love the two share and possibly more than that.

My Thoughts:

4 stars - a great read

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Spellbound.  Star crossed lovers bound by a curse that forbids their love but brings them together every lifetime only to end it in death.  It's a great premise and this one was well done.  I wasn't sure where you could go from there.  But Cara did a great job giving us more of Emma and Brendan's incredible love story with more magic thrown in.

I still love the characters as much as before.  Emma did some growing that was nice to see.  I felt bad for Brendan - he was put through some struggles that were hard for him.  I didn't care for the lying at all.  I wondered if the tables were reversed if the forgiveness would have been as forthcoming.  I really respected Brendan for taking responsibility for his past actions coming back to haunt him.  He clearly didn't make excuses.  It was a blast watching Angelique decide that Brendan really was a great guy that would do anything for Emma.  Nice!  The passion between Emma and Brendan was incredible and I couldn't get enough of their relationship.

This story was fast paced and had the same wonderful clue dropping among the pages as the first book did.   I love it when I can figure out the clues almost as much as I love it when I can't.  There was a little of both in this book.  This one is sure to please those who loved book one as I did.

If you like the magical side of YA, then this is a great read to pick up.

  2. So I haven't read Spellbound yet. I only just scanned your review of this. I really want to though. I have heard it's great. Besides, if you like it most likely I will. We seem to have pretty similar taste in books. :)
