My Summary:
Evie has escaped the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA) and is trying to live a normal life but with her boyfriend, Lend, off at college her normal life is a little boring. She tries to do well in school so she can get into George Town and be able to see Lend more than on the weekends but it all lacks purpose. When she worked for the IPCA, she was helping people. Now, not so much. Then the IPCA or really Rachel comes calling to see if Evie could do some side work for them. All working around her schedule and she can certainly turn anything down she doesn't want to do. It's too hard to turn down, even though Lend doesn't want her to. So just don't tell him. That works - well it does except for the guilt for lying and the constant strange happenings. And what about this Jack guy? What's his story? Evie isn't bored anymore. As a matter of fact, she is having a hard time keeping up with her life. Will she keep it all together long enough to get into George Town and live happily ever after with Lend? Will she even live long enough for that? What's a paranormal girl to do?
My thoughts:
3 1/2 stars - a great read
I'm not sure what I was expecting for the second book in the series. I really enjoyed Paranormalcy and I think I was hoping for more of the same but I had a few problems with this book.
The world is still fabulous. I really like what Kiersten has done with this world. It's enough different from other faerie worlds to be exciting and interesting. I enjoyed the new plot and it took me a while to start suspecting who was behind everything. I love Lend and his shape shifting ways. As a matter of fact, I missed him being around. With him only available on the weekends, there was way too much Lendless time. I liked the increased role for Arianna. Her moody behavior had me guessing. The new character Jack was quite the puzzle. His comments and humor was very unique. I guess growing up with faeries can make someone pretty different. I found him interesting and he had me thinking a lot.
Mostly the only problem I had with this book was Evie. So I guess I could take the poor decision making role that she had going in this book, but she made me crazy with the two sides of the coin thinking. She would take one side and talk herself into something - totally something stupid - then she would go through the other side and talk herself out of it. Only to start it over again. It got a little whiney. We do learn a lot about Evie's past and her relationship with Lend has some important growth so I guess things were moved along. I just wish I had loved Evie as much as I did in book one. Still want to read book three and find out how things end. I know I'm gonna be right back to loving Evie. She was having some growing pains that I didn't like sharing with her.
It's a great book, just don't let Evie get to ya.
