So Much Closer by Susane Colasanti

My summary:

Brooke is facing her senior year of high school without the love of her life. Scott Abrams just moved to New York City and left her behind. Too bad he doesn’t really even know her. But the draw of him is too much for Brooke. She leaves her mother in Jersey and moves in with her father in New York. Following Scott to New York is a chance to change things for Brooke. She is academically gifted but doesn’t apply herself. She is angry beyond words at her parents for divorcing. She has shut herself off from people. Will chasing Scott make any lasting changes for her? Will the city she has always wanted to live in change her or will she change the city?

My thoughts:

3 stars – a good read

I have to admit that the idea of a seventeen year-old following some boy that really doesn’t even know who she is to another city was a bit disturbing. It almost had me putting the book down but it was a fun fast paced adventure that kept calling to me. I read it in about a day.

I enjoyed seeing New York from Brooke’s eyes. I’ve never been to that city, not for lack of desire, and it was nice to get to know it. I liked how she was able to work through a lot of issues because she was willing to make a major change in her life.

I liked Scott and wish we could have understood him more. I was never sure what was really going on with him but it seemed there was more there. John was also very interesting. I liked how persistent he was and how hard he was willing to work to be successful. It was interesting to me that he had such a huge impact on Brooke’s academics when no one else really did.

So Much Closer is a good contemporary YA novel that you should pick up and give a chance.
