Review...

Jumping into the middle of this complex of a paranormal series was a little challenging but only has me wanting to start from the beginning and read the whole thing!

Having not read books one and two, I was a little behind but the author does a good job of explaining the important parts I missed.  I fell into the world and devoured the book.  The story is compelling and rich.

Immortal warriors that each hold a demon from pandora's box make up this world.  They are tortured by their demon and struggle to keep themselves true to who they really are.  Reyes holds the demon of pain and as such is forced to inflict pain upon himself to appease the creature.  His loyalty to his fellow warriors are what grounds him and his motivation to survive.  At first, I worried about this man.  Cutting and hurting himself didn't sound like something I could deal with but his depth of caring is strong.  He isn't interesting in hurting those he cares for and takes the pain himself.  As he gets to know Danika, his love for her develops and grows.  He will gladly take any pain to protect her.  I loved that about him.

Danika is a bit of mystery that we discover is so much more than she appears.  Her strength is what motivates her to stand up to her half demon man but it's the love she develops for him that has her taking risks and protecting him even from himself.

I enjoyed the dark and compelling world this series takes place in and loved the deep devotion of these warriors to their women.  I was cheering for them and fearful for them.  And I may have found another paranormal obsession!

I'm heading off to start at the beginning and devour more of this series.  I can't wait to get to the new book, The Darkest Torment.  Don't miss out on this enjoyable and dark paranormal romance!

Just wanted to drowned in this one, it was just so good!

Publisher: HQN Books (May 31, 2016)

New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter returns with her most explosive Lords of the Underworld tale to date, about a fierce warrior on the brink of sanity who will stop at nothing to claim the exquisite human with the power to soothe the beast inside him…

Driven to his death by the demon of Distrust, Baden spent centuries in purgatory. Now he’s back, but at what cost? Bound to the king of the underworld, an even darker force, he’s unable to withstand the touch of another…and he’s quickly devolving into a heartless assassin with an uncontrollable temper. Things only get worse when a mission goes awry and he finds himself saddled with a bride—just not his own.

Famed dog trainer Katarina Joelle is forced to marry a monster to protect her loved ones. When she’s taken hostage by the ruthless, beautiful Baden immediately after the ceremony, she’s plunged into a war between two evils—with a protector more dangerous than the monsters he hunts. They are meant to be enemies, but neither can resist the passion burning between them…and all too soon the biggest threat is to her heart.

But as Baden slips deeper into the abyss, she’ll have to teach him to love…or lose him forever.
