Blaze of Memory by Nalini Singh ~ Review

Source: Purchased the audiobook

A woman without a past becomes the pawn of the man who controls her future...

Dev Santos discovers her unconscious and battered, with no memory of who she is. All she knows is that she's dangerous. Charged with protecting his people's most vulnerable secrets, Dev is duty-bound to eliminate all threats. It's a task he's never hesitated to complete...until he finds himself drawn to a woman who might prove to be the enemy's most insidious weapon yet.

Stripped of her memories by a shadowy oppressor and programmed to carry out cold-blooded murder, Katya Haas is fighting desperately for her sanity. Her only hope is Dev. But how can she expect to gain the trust of a man who could very well be her next target? For in this game, one must die...

Review...

I am seven books in and still obsessed with this series.  When I read the description for this one, I was nervous I wouldn't enjoy it as much because there wasn't a shifter as a central character.  Shouldn't have worried.

Dev Santos isn't a shifter but he has their alpha male tendencies.  As one of the forgotten, he has gifts that most Psy don't.  His affinity for metal has him able to control his emotions like the silenced but his emotions are very much alive.  And the only thing...no the only person that can melt him is Katya Haas.

Both characters are strong and compelling.  I was very attached to both of them.  In an impossible situation, these two fight their attraction only to have it consume them both.  With the uncertainty that is Katya and the danger she represents, they are both trying to protect those they care about and fight the circumstances they were thrown into.  It was a great situation to put them in and it let them find their feelings for each other.

Of course, there is lots of heat in the book.  These two are drawn to each other as if they were mates. Besides the pantie melting heat, there are cuddles, touches and sweetness that had me very happy.

And pain.  So much pain.  I think this book truly taught me just how far this author will go with her characters when it comes to pain.  I cried.  So sad.  No more about this.  It was necessary.  It was important.  It taught us so much.  And I was happy at the end with that knowledge.

Some interesting additions to the world building in this book.  We learn more about those who rebelled against silence at it's inception.  We learned more about the evil of the Psy counsel and just how far they will go in their quest for power and control.  And we learned more about the rebellion inside the net.  Suspicions confirmed and reasons given for why some Psy are working the system.  It's incredible how each book completes a story while adding to the overarching series story.  I'm really enjoying that.

There are seven books left in the series and many little novellas.  I'm excited to read more.  I can't seem to stop.  It's all I want to read.

  2. I might have to go back in the series to read this one. I skipped over it when I first started the series because it didn't feature a changeling.

  4. I took a break from this series because I was too wrapped up in the books and the world that my review pile was left in the dust but now that my review pile is back to a more manageable size, I'm scared to jump back into this one and get sucked in again.

Hell, I'm going to jump in anyway, your review made sure of that.

    1. I totally understand. My review pile is a mess but I stopped accepting them so I could read this series. Little fall break for me. I'm so glad you're jumping back in and I had some small part in that! :D Makes me all kinds of happy pants.

  5. This sounds great. I need to see if this is on Audible. I've been buying the audio versions of series that I want to listen to for "me," but have put off because of review books, and this sounds like a perfect one to add to. Great review.
