JLA Month ~ Opposition Reviews

Opposition (Lux #5)

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.

She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.

They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.

War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

Review...

So I finally read Opposition.  It was hard to say goodbye to this series and I've struggled to bring myself to read this book.  Not that I didn't think it would be good but because then it would be over.  The good news is that it will live in re-reads forever.

The Lux series was not my first JLA book.  I had already fell in love with her kick-a$$ heroines, her hot guys and her incredible stories.  But meeting Daemon Black is a different world.  This hot alien kicks it up a notch and the conclusion to the series does that again.

Five books can be a long series and tying it all together can be a challenge.  This author does an incredible job of giving the fans moments to cherish.   Little moments are brought up from the series in this book that brings back all the things I loved about Katy and Daemon.  Even "the note" has a moment and it's one that satisfied me about what that note said.  The reminiscing isn't an add-on but a part of the story and it was brilliant.

The characters in this series are the best.  As a character driven reader, I need to get the characters and understand them.  Daemon had me crazy at the end of Origin and that was no different at the beginning of Opposition but I didn't doubt him.  I just love him.  His love for Katy is out of this world.  Understanding that it is his driving force for everything he does makes me love him even more.  He's still sexy and arrogant.  He's very much Daemon Black.

Katy makes me happy.  Her love of books and her blog make her so real to me.  I love how that grounds her and makes her happy.  I love a moment where she "handles" something for Daemon that would have hurt him so much.  It was her unwavering believe in someone that made the difference.  She made the difference.  And it showed her bada$$ side.  I ached for her when she faced some incredible pain in this story.  She is incredible.  Love her.

I love all the secondary characters as well.  I have hurt along the way as we have lost some of them.  I was happy that some survived and recovered.  I can't wait for more about Luc.  I loved seeing Hunter is this one (Obsession) and I loved seeing one get his due.

The story itself was full and compelling.  I read it straight through, all 352 pages of it.

An incredibly enjoyable ending to an amazing series, this one satisfies.  A capstone for JLA that fans will love and will bring more to the bandwagon.

Don't miss this one.

Review...

I put off reading this book for a long time. Like, ten months of a long time. I started it on release day, put it down, read a little more later, put it down again, and kept doing that until the end of June when I decided it really was time I sat my butt down and finished this baby. I didn't keep putting it off because it was bad or anything--the literal opposite, actually, this book was amazing. But it was so hard to say goodbye to this series. I've had years invested, and it's my all-time favorite. But really. Ten months, y'all. it was time.

Lucky for me, Jennifer L. Armentrout did this series ending right.

Daemon and Kat are still their usual lovable selves, though they've gone through so much in these books that they've also grown a bunch. They're the same in their awesome ways, Daemon's still snarky, and Katy's still that cool chick I want to be best friends with. But they have experiences and losses under their belt now. Things that both hurt them but made them stronger.

The story and writing were as addicting as always. There were sweet moments, there were funny moments. There were some intense times, and some sad times. The book as a whole was really easy to fly through once I worked up the nerve to do it. Things didn't drag, and Jen really did these characters and the ending to their story so much justice.

On the romance front, Daemon Black can still set my heart aflutter like no other. He's committed to his Kitten, and they make the most amazing couple. While there's lots going on this book, mostly working against their favor, Daemon and Kat are a strong couple. They take whatever moments alone they can get. And they are as adorable and sweet (and pretty darn funny) as usual.

What hit me the hardest with this book--and I say that in the very best way--was all the references to past books in the series. Opposition was the end. The last Lux book. It hurt so much saying goodbye, but it warmed my heart (in the way that brought tears to my eyes...and led to legit sobbing) how some things came full circle while other things were so parallel to past situations, and even more was just a nod to earlier in the series. SO MUCH NOSTALGIA. It was amazing, and I am so grateful to JLA for giving us this.

Overall, Opposition is now my favorite series ender ever. The characters, romance, plot, and past references were all mixed well to create this epic conclusion to my favorite series. Saying goodbye was hard, and it still hurts, but I could not be more glad that THIS BOOK is how it ended.

(Now I guess I just sit here and fiddle my thumbs until Oblivion is released? I'm down with that.)

5 happy-crying stars - An amazing conclusion to my favorite series!
