A Shattered Moment by Tiffany King ~ Review

Received a paperback ARC from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

In the new series by Tiffany King, the USA Today bestselling author of the Woodfalls Girls novels, six friends—fresh from high school graduation—discover that the future can come at you from out of nowhere.

This is Mackenzie’s story…

Mackenzie Wilson once had hope for what life had to offer, but everything changed on the night of her graduation. A year later, the only way she can find comfort is by keeping her head down and hoping she remains unnoticed at college.

When Bentley James discovered Mac in that twisted SUV, he was just a newbie EMT on his first call. It was a gut-wrenching moment that made him realize not everyone can be saved—and sometimes they don’t want to be.

A chance encounter on campus brings Bentley back into Mac’s life. Despite her initial resistance, he sets out to discover the girl hiding beneath a shield of seclusion. He evokes painful memories in Mac—but also feelings. As the spark between them grows, Mac must decide if she can let go of the past and believe in something as fragile as love…

Review...

I started this book on the plane to Apollycon.  Then I read it in front of the author while we were stuck in a snow storm in Philly.  She might of laughed at my giggles and post-it note obsession.  Then I finished it waiting for a plane to finally take me home.  It was comforting to have this book during a stressful time.  It's theme made it a good one.  It was gentle and supportive, just what I needed.  And I'm willing to get stuck in an airport as long as I have a book from this author to read.

This book has a great guy with patience and love that sees past the pain another is in to the person they are.  I love that guy.  Bentley James gets why Mac's life is a mess.  Understands it like others don't.  He was there the night her life changed and fell apart.  But he sees more than the scars, the limp and the shell she is now, too, despite her efforts to resist.  He's drawn to her.  He wants to get to know her, be friends and maybe more.  And he's good with slow.  Will she let him?  She needs to.

I love these characters.  Mac is broken from a life changing moment.  Nothing is the same.  How she deals with the pain, with the change, it feels real to me.  I love the connection Bentley has to the moment.  I love that he isn't a player or a bad boy.  I love that he's a good guy.  One that was looking for his place, his niche.  And I love that that place was Mac.

The story progresses at a comfortable pace with these two sharing a little history and then lots of time to get to know each other.  I loved their sexy times and Bentley's yummy kisses.  I enjoyed the mix of summary to live action.  It helped us see so much more without making the book super long.  I, also, felt like the grief was dealt with realistically.

I love Tiffany's writing and so enjoyed this one.  I want more.  I'm really homing that some of the secondary characters get their own books.  Not saying who because it's too spoilery.

This is a great New Adult story that feels healing and yummy.  If that appeals to you, then give this one a try.
