What do I have today?  This!

Stranded on Earth two thousand years they’ve waited for the arrival of the One: some to save her, others to kill her. With her birth, the ancient prophecy could at last be fulfilled and the doorway between the worlds would open. Those who know the prophecy believe this event occurred almost eighteen years ago, and now, they’ll stop at nothing to find her.

Seventeen-year-old Eveline has lived her entire life on the move and she hates it. She knows her parents believe she’s the One, and they’ve done whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of those who want her dead. But Eveline isn’t fully convinced that her parents’ beliefs match her own. What she does believe is that Leadville, Colorado may be the chance she’s been waiting for. The chance to be somewhere safe. The chance for her to make friends and have fun. The chance to finally date a guy. The chance to be a normal girl, at least as normal as possible for someone not human.

This is my version of Waiting on Wednesday but with more cuddles, books I can't wait to cuddle for various reasons.

What am I waiting on this week?  THIS!

Tia and Will’s lives get flipped upside down when they’re voted Yearbook’s Biggest Flirts in this sassy novel from the author of Endless Summer and The One That I Want.

Tia just wants to have fun. She’s worked hard to earn her reputation as the life of the party, and she’s ready for a carefree senior year of hanging out with friends and hooking up with cute boys. And her first order of business? New guy Will. She can’t get enough of his Midwestern accent and laidback swagger.

As the sparks start to fly, Will wants to get serious. Tia’s seen how caring too much has left her sisters heartbroken, and she isn’t interested in commitment. But pushing Will away drives him into the arms of another girl. Tia tells herself it’s no big deal…until the yearbook elections are announced. Getting voted Biggest Flirts with Will is, well, awkward. They may just be friends, but their chemistry is beginning to jeopardize Will’s new relationship—and causing Tia to reconsider her true feelings. What started as a lighthearted fling is about to get very complicated…

Synopsis

Will their past determine their future?
Saint Ford has worked hard to achieve her childhood dream of becoming of nurse. Focused on her work and devoted to her patients, there’s no room for love. She doesn’t need a guy making waves in her calm, serene life—especially when he’s the unforgettable hottie who nearly destroyed her in high school. Dark, brooding Nash Donovan might not remember her or the terrible pain he caused. But he turned her world upside down . . . and now he’s trying to do it again.
Saint has no idea that Nash isn’t the cocky player he once was. Uncovering a devastating family secret has rocked his world, and now he’s struggling to figure out his future. He can’t be distracted by the pretty nurse he seems to meet everywhere. Still, he can’t ignore the sparks that fly between them —or how she seems so desperate to get away from him. But the funny, sweet, and drop-dead gorgeous Saint is far too amazing to give up on—especially since she’s the only thing in his life that seems to make sense.
When Nash discovers the truth about their past, he realizes he may have lost her heart before he could even fight for it. Now, Saint has to decide: is Nash worth risking herself for all over again?

My Thoughts:

4 stars - The acceptance of who you are is strong in this one.

First Impressions...

I have loved this series from the start.  My favorite is Rome but I love them all.  So I was super excited for Nash's story.

The Characters...

And I love Nash.  If you missed my Book Boyfriend this last Saturday, you should check it out for all the wonderful quotes about Nash.

Nash grew up with a mother that thought he was in the way of her life.  She lied to him about his father and picked her current man over him.  I have absolutely no understanding of that.  But I do know that it tortured Nash.  Always looking for a way to get his mom's love and attention, he grew up angry.  Sure he's a bad boy and all the girls wanted his gorgeous body but it wasn't a fun time for him.  He remembers Saint.  He thought she was pretty and out of his league.  If his own mother didn't want him, why would she?

Tortured for sure but a good guy at heart.  Nash does the right thing.  Yeah, he has more tats than anyone in the group and he's sporting some hardware but you need the shirt off his back and he's there for ya.  Even when he's first reconnected with Saint, he comes to her rescue when she asks.  And, of course, he's a sexy boy.

Now Saint was a little hard for me.  Here's the deal, I was the shy misunderstand girl growing up.  I had the crush on the boy who hardly talked to me.  So I felt like she should be a kindred spirit.  I should get her.  I didn't get her.  I finally liked her but she confused me a lot.  Maybe it's the fact that I'm a teacher and work with teenagers everyday but I can't really understand why she held things that happened when Nash was an angry teen against him.  I won't go into too much detail but I'll just say that once he knew and explained, she should have let it go.  Like I said, I did finally like her and she really stood by Nash at one point that made me proud of the shy girl, but I did struggle with her.

Of course, I loved seeing all the other characters and getting a little bit about what's up with them.  I'm excited for Rowdy's story.  A little mystery comes to light at the end of this one that starts the next one.  I can't wait for more.

The Story...

I'm always amazed that 400 pages can go by so fast.  Some books that are this long or longer drag by but not this one.  I was flying through it and wondering what would happen next.  I had a couple things right but Nash has a way of surprising me.  Saint did one time when I was like...what?  I like that.

I also really liked the theme of this this story.  The idea of being who you are and accepting that was strong.  I am who I am and I will always be the person inside of me.  If others don't like that, then too dang bad.

Could I Put It Down...

Read it over two nights.  That pesky day job gets in the way of all night reading sessions but this one could easily have been read straight through.

In The End...

Anyone who has enjoyed this series will definitely want to pick this one up.  I think it could be read stand alone as well, though why anyone would want to miss the books before it is beyond me.

If you love those books that have strong characters who can be who they really are mixed with some sexy good times, then this is the book and series for you.

The Shadow Prince by Stacey O'Neale ~ Guest Post, Review & Giveaway

Guest Post Question:
Why did you want to create a series about elementals?

By Stacey O'Neale
I wanted to write a paranormal series without using one of the popular characters like vampires, werewolves, and witches. When I was researching faeries, I came across the word elemental. I googled it and found a page about a sixteenth century alchemist named Paracelsus. He tied them to the four basic elements of nature (earth, air, fire, and water) and even named them. I thought the idea was incredibly fascinating. As I continued my research, I found other sources which referred to elementals as 'Nature's Angels' meaning all nature creatures (faeries, mermaids, gnomes, elves, etc.) were all considered elementals. Putting all these creatures together opened up a lot of possibilities. My brain went into overdrive, and before I knew it, I had created this whole new world within our own world. The elemental world has the potential for so many storylines. As of right now, it's only three books (novella plus three full-length novels) but I could see myself expanding it if readers were interested. I guess I'll have to wait and see. J
Every sacrifice has consequences.

This prequel novella is FREE and available on Goodreads, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble!

Every sacrifice has consequences.

Sixteen-year-old Rowan has spent most of his life living among the mortals—learning to control the element of fire, impatiently awaiting the day his vengeful mother, Queen Prisma, will abdicate her throne. When he finally returns to Avalon for his coronation, his mother insists he must first prove his loyalty to the court by completing a secret mission:

Kill Kalin, the half-human, half-elemental daughter of the air court king.

Willing to do anything to remove his mother from power, he agrees to sacrifice the halfling. He returns to the mortal world with his best friend, Marcus, determined to kill the princess. But as he devises a plan, he starts to question whether or not he's capable of completing such a heinous task. And what price he will pay if he refuses?

My Thoughts:

4 stars - A great start to what's sure to be a great series!

I haven't read a lot of paranormal lately, so I was excited to read this novella.  I love the cover and the blurb is certainly intriguing.

I immediately loved Rowen.  He's the son of the Fire Queen but his mother hates him.  When he's asked to do the unthinkable, he tries to follow her command but he can't.  He has a strong sense of right even if his mother doesn't.  He has a great friendship with a hound and that made me both happy and sad.  You'll see why.

I can't tell you the rest but I very much want to know what's going to happen in the life of Rowen.  It's not been so nice so far.  But he is strong and good.  I know he will find a way to do the right things for his people.

I read this novella straight through.  It's short but the story is strong.  I really enjoyed it.  I might have wanted more in a few places but it is only the prequel.  I'm sure my desire will be granted in the next book.

This book would be great for anyone who loves paranormal, heavy on the elemental magic.  I love elemental magic so it was a good fit.

EXCERPT:
....I felt my bed dip and sighed, “I’m getting up now.”
“I should hope so. You wouldn’t want me to be late on my first day.”
I squeaked and frantically pushed the covers from my head making a tangled mess of my hair. I shoved the hair out my face, spitting out the pieces that stuck to my lips, to glare at the figure sitting at the foot of my bed.
He grinned, “That’s an interesting look for you. What do you call it?” I brushed my hair down again and sat up trying to find my voice amidst the shock of him being in my room—of appearing in my room. “You’ve got about ten minutes before I need to pop you over to the fam so hop to it, love, and I’ll give you your reward.”
I put my hands on my hips, causing the blanket to pool in my lap. The teasing look left his eyes as he took in my shoulders, bared by the spaghetti straps of my V-neck tank. His eyes roamed over the exposed skin, each pause of his glance a visual caress. I crossed my arms, unintentionally revealing even more of myself to him, and he inhaled sharply. His eyes flashed to mine, and he searched my face.
He slid along the edge of the bed to where I had my back pressed against the wall, his gaze never leaving mine. I was effectively caged in, his body on one side of me and the arm he was leaning on placed by my opposite hip. He radiated heat into the infinitesimal gap that separated our bodies. My lips parted on a swiftly in drawn breath, and when he glanced down at them, I bit the bottom one in anticipation. Chase groaned softly, and heat flared in his eyes.Bracing a hand on the wall beside my head, he leaned in closer. With the other he cupped my face, rubbing his rough thumb over the smoothness of my cheek.
We inhaled short shallow gasps through our mouths, and he dipped his head, stopping just short of the spot I ached to have him touch. My lips tingled in anticipation.
“Why can’t I get you out my head?”
The vapor of his breath tasted sweet as I inhaled, and I waited for him to move that last excruciating millimeter.
