New Adult Contemporary Romance
The past will always find you.
Jos Archer was the girl with the perfect life; until the night it all came crashing down around her. Now, nine months later, she still hasn't begun to pick up the pieces. Even transferring to a new college and living under the watchful eye of her older sister, Renee, isn't enough to help her feel normal again.
And then she meets Dusty Sharp. For reasons Jos can't begin to fathom, the newly reformed campus bad boy seems determined to draw her out of her shell. And if she's not careful, his knowing green eyes and wicked smile will make her feel things she's no longer sure she deserves.
But even as Dusty coaxes Jos to open up about the past, he's hiding secrets of his own. Secrets about the night her old life fell apart. When the truth is finally revealed, will it bring them closer together;or tear them apart for good?

Visual Inspiration for Jos and Dusty
When I first decided I was going to write this story about
completely new characters, I got my butt to Pinterest and started looking up
images. I’d never written a redhead girl before, and I knew, from the very
beginning of learning about Jos’s character, that she was a redhead. I also
knew she would look younger than she was, so I searched for sweet redheads and found
these:
I knew she had freckles and curly-ish red hair and these
two perfectly brought that together for me. I also knew that, being a redhead,
she’d have a little bit of fire about her. The other thing about Jos that I
love is her passion for music, because I’m also a huge music lover. It was
basically the best excuse ever to spend hours on Pandora and YouTube, finding
new bands and songs.
Then it was time for Dusty. Oh, Dusty. When I first knew
that he was a beatboxer, I knew he would have a kind of swag to him. I have a
tendency to write non-white male leads. I think it’s a side effect of knowing
so many people that were a mixture of a bunch of races. So I knew Dusty was
biracial. Then I went to Pinterest again to find a guy to stare it. Believe me
it was AWFUL. I used to watch Grey’s Anatomy, but I’d stopped watching a few
years ago, mostly due to a character they killed off. BUT I’d seen previews and
clips of the absolutely beautiful Jesse Williams. I mean, look at him. LOOK AT
HIM.
THOSE EYES. I mean, COME ON. I knew I had my perfect Dusty
inspiration. Once I had that, the rest of his personality followed. But the
more I wrote, the more things about him I discovered. Like his love of sock
sliding, and how much of a good friend he could be. I was BEYOND shocked when I
was writing the scene where Jos goes to his apartment for the first time and he
has a kitten. I had no idea about the kitten until it showed up in the story
out of the blue. But once the kitten was there, it was like I’d planned it all
along. I love it when that happens in my writing.
There were so many things that were unexpected about this
book, which was what made it such a joy to write. I love people who are
interesting and three-dimensional and I hope my books reflect that. Each one of
my character is a real person with desires and hopes and a past and quirks and
flaws. I love sitting at my computer and having them throw something at me that
I wasn’t expecting. I honestly have the best job in the world. Plus, looking at
pictures of Jesse Willams shirtless is considered research. You can’t get much
better than that.
