New Adult Contemporary Romance

BOOK SUMMARY:
Maggie Carpenter is ready for a change— and to leave her ordinary life in South Carolina behind. But when she accepts a scholarship to the International School in London, a university attended by the privileged offspring of diplomats and world leaders, Maggie might get more than she bargained for.

When Maggie meets Hugh, a twentysomething British guy, she finds herself living the life she always wanted. Suddenly she’s riding around the city in a Ferrari, wearing borrowed designer clothes and going to the hottest clubs. The only problem? Another guy, the one she can’t seem to keep her hands off of.

Half French, half Lebanese, and ridiculously wealthy, Samir Khouri has made it clear he doesn’t do relationships. He’s the opposite of everything Maggie thought she wanted…and he’s everything she can’t resist. Torn between her dream guy and the boy haunting her dreams, Maggie has to fight for her own happy ending. In a city like London, you never know where you stand, and everything can change in the blink of an eye.

This is a New Adult romance recommended for readers 17 and up.

Character Interview

Hey Maggie, thanks for agreeing to talk to me.

I was surprised that you would accept a scholarship and move out of the country. What made you want to do that?

When I didn’t get into Harvard, I felt stuck. I’d worked so hard for four years thinking that it would be enough and it wasn’t. And then I got this brochure from the International School—on the same day my rejection letter came—and I just thought, “Why not?”

I didn’t want to stay in South Carolina for the rest of my life, never getting to see the world. There’s this thing I do—I’ve done it since I was a kid—I read travel books. It’s silly. I’ve never been outside of the U.S., never been on an airplane, and yet I’m obsessed with travel books. But my dad’s in the Air Force—he’s a fighter pilot—and I used to love to read about all the places he lived, all the countries he visited. And I don’t know, I guess I just wanted a chance to go somewhere too.

The first time you met Samir, what did you think?

I thought he was the hottest guy I’d ever seen and he absolutely terrified me.

Can you describe Samir in 5 words for me.

Challenging. Passionate. Loyal. Smart. Unpredictable.

What about Hugh? Can you describe him in 5 words for me.

Fun. Exciting. Kind. Sophisticated. Hot.

Tell me something about Samir that we don’t learn in the book.

He loves to play video games.

What about you, something we don’t learn about you in the book.

I collect different editions of Pride and Prejudice. It’s one of my favorite books and every time I go to a used bookstore I always check and see if they have a copy I can add to my collection.

If you could spend the perfect day with Samir, what would you do, where would you go?

I would love to spend another day exploring Paris with him. I loved walking through the city with him while showed me all of the various sights. I didn’t expect him to be so sweet about it but he really cared about making sure I had a good time.

I’d love to take a boat cruise on the Seine with him. Fleur said they play “La Vie en Rose” on the speakers and that it’s magical at night. I would love to spend the night like that, looking at the stars and the city lights with Samir by my side.

If you could have one wish, no questions asked, what would it be?

I wish my mom had never left us.

If you could go back in time and change one thing, what would it be?

I wish I’d been brave enough to tell Samir I liked him from the beginning. I wish I were better with guys and that I hadn’t let my fear keep me from telling him that I cared about him. I wish I’d put myself out there more and given him a chance from the beginning. I didn’t see him at first—didn’t see who he really is—didn’t give him a chance. I just saw what was on the surface and I didn’t dig deeper until things had already gotten so complicated. I wish I could go back in time and change that.

Anything else you'd like to tell my readers?

I think that’s it. Thanks for having me!
