Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer by Katie Alender ~ Review & Giveaway

Source:  Received ARC at BEA in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Colette Iselin is excited to go to Paris on a class trip. She’ll get to soak up the beauty and culture, and maybe even learn something about her family’s French roots.

But a series of gruesome murders are taking place across the city, putting everyone on edge. And as she tours museums and palaces, Colette keeps seeing a strange vision: a pale woman in a ball gown and powdered wig, who looks suspiciously like Marie Antoinette.

Colette knows her popular, status-obsessed friends won’t believe her, so she seeks out the help of a charming French boy. Together, they uncover a shocking secret involving a dark, hidden history. When Colette realizes she herself may hold the key to the mystery, her own life is suddenly in danger . . .

Acclaimed author Katie Alender brings heart-stopping suspense to this story of revenge, betrayal, intrigue — and one killer queen.

Review by Julie!

This cheeky story is about a young girl named Colette who goes on a school trip to Paris. Colette is a part of the "in crowd" on the outside but inside she is a genuine, caring, thrift store shopping girl! The story puts Colette into new environments and situations causing her to grow a little bit by the end of the read. Unexpectedly, Colette finds family history in Paris while falling for two cute boys. I love the end of this book because it ties the story together and Colette is able to solve problems that she was struggling with before her trip to Paris.

The author, Katie Alender, did a great job painting realistic scenes and creating a reader relationship with Colette. The book was an easy read and had a little of mean girl humor, murder mystery and European history sprinkled in. I would recommend this to young girls because overall it has a good message. Page turner for sure!

Favorite quote- page 139
"They needed a symbol," he said. "Somewhere to project their frustrations. Marie Antoinette was a foreigner -- she was born in Austria, she was independent, and she had extravagant taste. But she was falsely accused of many things and often used as a... I don't know how to say it."

"A scapegoat?" I suggested.

Jules's confused face was seriously cute. "A what kind of goat?"

"Scapegoat. It means.. someone you blame when things aren't good."

"Then yes. She was a goat"

Read this.. Or Die!!
