Celebrating with Rachel Harris!

Welcome to a month long celebration!

What am I celebrating?

This!

And it's gone up since then!

SO, I'm celebrating!

All month I will be posting interview and featuring books from some of my favorite authors!

Of course, there will be a HUGE giveaway to go along with it!
For every author that participates, I will add one of their books to the giveaway.  Every book will have a winner! This will be BIG!

Who's up today?

Rachel Harris!

I’m celebrating passing 700,000 page views on Stuck In Books and I’m so happy you’re here with me for that.

I’m honored to be here! I freaking adore you…but you know that.

Hope you don’t mind me being silly with you for a bit.  Gotta have some fun, ya know.

People aren’t silly enough. I embrace the silly. Bring it on!

Does it make me strange that I want to celebrate with authors?  It’s a bookish thing.  When you want to celebrate something fabulous, what do you do?

First, not strange at all. Authors and bookish people are my favorite people to hang with in general, especially when celebrating. When something particularly fabulous happens, I tend to go to the Flirt Squad Facebook page and squee with my street team…then squee on Twitter (I practically live there)…and then go out with my family to PF Chang’s and eat my weight in dumplings.

My celebrating beverage is Coke Zero. I know, I’m weird.  What’s your celebrating beverage of choice?

My normal go-to beverage is Diet Mountain Dew, but if I’m celebrating, I always grab a bottle of Moscato.

I tend to hang out at parks with my one-year-old grandson for celebrations.  Where is your celebration destination of choice?

First PF Chang’s, but I also love taking the family to the movies and then painting pottery. Don’t get any ideas here—I SUCK at it. My pitiful attempts are, well, pitiful. But it’s so dang fun! And my kids have a ball, which makes everything that much better.

I might get stuck in a book to celebrate.  Who am I kidding; of course that’s how I celebrate.  (Buying a book is the best kind of celebration!) What was the last book you got stuck in?

I’m a bookaholic. I read every night, even if it’s just a few pages, to quiet my mind and rid it of all my crazy, talkative characters and the everyday whatnot of being a stay at home, homeschooling mama. I recently my girl Caisey Quinn’s new adult Keep Me Still, and I’m currently reading Robin Bielman’s upcoming adult Secret Wishes release for a cover blurb. I love her books!

New adult books have become my new love.  Do you have a genre that you prefer to read or write over all others?

When it comes to writing, I love writing young adult, new adult, and romance. They all have their own unique challenges and depth, and changing it up from one to the other keeps me on my toes (he he). BUT I need me some romance in the pages!!
As for reading, I also love reading all three, but if you looked at my Goodreads account, you’d see most of the books I’ve read this year were new adult, too. And they were all sexy, yummy fun ;)

If you had to re-write the three little pigs or the three bears into a new adult book, which would you choose and how would you do it?

Wow. What an interesting question. I think both can work really well in a new adult setting—what I love about new adult and early twenties/college years is that it’s a time of growth, experimentation, stretching yourself, and discovery.

I think I’d like to do it Sliding Doors style ….anyone see that movie? Dual timeline, allowing you to see how her life would turn out if she made one choice differently?

Anyhoo, I’d do that format with the three bears. The concept of that story boils down, for me, to trying something that is too much/too far (burns you), too safe and easy (cold), and then finding the path that is just right. I’d explore the girl going down three paths, all hinging on one decision she could make.

Our golden-locked friend can go the wild and crazy, have-a-ton-of-fun and experiment-yet-possibly-flunk-out path. And the quiet, reserved, head down, never leave the dorm room other than for class and for the library type of a path. And finally, the middle of the road path, where she ends up discovering a passion that she never knew she had, and truly finds herself. All three paths would have their own romance (of course). Mr. Right Now, Mr. Bore You to Death, and Mr. Perfectly Right and Scrumptious.

You’re building the perfect ice cream sundae to share with one character from one of your books.  What’s on the sundae and who are you sharing it with? Yeah – you need to explain your choice.

Oh, my husband is going to love this (he he). But come on, I have to go with one of the guys. It’s only ice cream, right? And perhaps staring dreamily into their eyes….

Ahem. I’d have to choose Cane Robicheaux, the tatted up, bad boy/inner math nerd big brother in Taste the Heat, who gets his own story in October. I had a crush on him writing Colby and Jason’s book, even as I fell for my sexy fire captain…but then writing Cane’s book? Holy Dimples, I fell for that man. He’s strong and a bit broody, yet cares openly, deeply, and easily for the women in his life (his sisters, his godchild, and a certain redhead). He looks rugged on the outside but balances budgets for kicks. And he has a sense of humor that kept me laughing, and while steaming up the screen.

As for the ice cream… that was the main question, huh? (he he, see what that man does to me??) I’m a NUT for chocolate-chip cookie dough ice cream, followed closely by Nutella. So I’d scoop a heaping tablespoon of Nutella in a bowl, then nuke it to get it warm and kind of melty. I’d then spread a good bit all over the bottom of a second bowl, do three huge scoops of my chocolate-chip cookie dough on top, then drizzle the rest of the Nutella over it. Top it off with a few cherries and two spoons…because yeah, Cane and I are totally sharing a bowl.

You have woke up in the middle of one of your books but things aren’t unfolding as you thought.  Which character has sabotaged the story and how will you convince them to fix it?

I keep going back and forth on my answer!! If I went with my YA series, it would easily be my gypsy girl Reyna, who sends my characters on mystical journeys and seems to enjoy mixing things up. But that answer is a little TOO obvious, huh? How about Emma from my adult Love & Games series. She was the preteen dynamo from Taste the Heat that loved playing Cupid with her dad, and she makes an appearance in book 2 as well. I could easily see her playing matchmaker, messing up the plans and couplings I have in store for the citizens of Magnolia Springs. But since the girl is just so stinking adorable, and quite honestly has great taste, I would probably sit back and see what happens. Sometimes it’s the most unlikely of romances that are the most fun to read!

You know my good news, what’s yours?  (What’s the new book/project you got going or any other thing you’d like to share with peeps).

I have so much good news happening this year that I keep pinching myself. This summer I had TWO releases—my adult debut, TASTE THE HEAT, and the second book in my YA series, A TALE OF TWO CENTURIES. Both books have gotten phenomenal reviews and it’s just been an amazing summer. Book two in my adult series—Cane’s book, le sigh—releases in October, followed by book three in February of 2014. I also have book three in my YA series releasing this winter, and a YA and NA romance releasing with Spencer Hill Contemporary in 2014. On top of all of that, I also have a few fun self-pub projects I’m working on, both alone and with some fabulous co-authors…such as my girl Trisha Wolfe.

It’s been a crazy journey so far but I’m having a blast!

Thanks, girl!

Taste the Heat (Love & Games, #1) by Rachel Harris

One sexy fire captain. One Cajun chef, One combustible kitchen…

When chef Colby Robicheaux returned home to New Orleans to save her family restaurant, the last person she expected to reconnect with was her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. As tempting as a sugar-coated beignet, Jason is one dish she doesn’t want to taste. Colby is counting down the days till she can leave the place where her distrust of love and commitment originated and go back to Vegas.

Fire captain Jason Landry isn’t looking for love, either. He knows he should focus on finding the perfect mother for his daughter, but when he first sees Colby, all grown up and gorgeous, he can’t help but be drawn to her. And when she suggests a no-strings-attached fling, Jason doesn’t want to say no.

As their relationship grows more intense, Colby finds that Jason isn’t as easy to leave behind as she thought. Could turning up the heat on something real be worth the possibility of getting burned?

Seven Day FiancĂ© (Love & Games, #2) by Rachel Harris

Cover for this one comes out Friday but here's some teasers for ya!

Pre-orders are up!

 About the author:

I grew up in New Orleans, where I watched soap operas with my grandmother and stayed up late sneak reading my mama’s favorite romance novels. Now a Cajun cowgirl living in Houston, I still stay up way too late reading my favorite romances, only now, I can do so openly. I firmly believe life’s problems can be solved with a hot, powdered-sugar-coated beignet or a thick slice of king cake, and that screaming at strangers for cheap, plastic beads is acceptable behavior in certain situations.

When not typing furiously or flipping pages in an enthralling romance, I homeschool my two beautiful girls and watch reality television with my amazing husband.

I write YA, NA, and Adult Fun & Flirty Escapes. Taste The Heat is my adult romance debut, and I'm also the author of MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY and A TALE OF TWO CENTURIES, as well as a ton of other books to come. I love hearing from readers and dishing books!
