One Night In The Spa by Kathy Lyons

Source:  Received an eBook copy from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Book Description:

What starts out as a simple massage treatment for spa manager David’s best friend Kim, turns into a night of seduction and sexual discovery.

Always relegated to the friend zone, David is determined to show Kim what she’s been missing…one erogenous zone at a time. Sure, their friendship is on the line. And sure, David’s hiding a motive larger than either him or Kim. But the second his hands touch her smooth skin, he just doesn’t care anymore.

Kim’s been so focused on the loss of her sports career that she’s had no time for romance or sex. But her response to David can’t be denied. Is it just that her body’s been missing out, or could her heart be involved too?

My Thoughts:

2 1/2 stars - I don't think I'm a standalone novella kinda girl

So I've read novellas before but mostly they've been stories that were part of a series.  I felt so detached from this story and these characters.  It just wasn't for me.

I agreed to review this one because I LOVED the premise.  I love the idea of a guy who is clearly in the friend zone finding a way to the lover zone.  Who wouldn't love the idea of that happening in a spa?  So, yeah, I wanted to read it.

But I also need a story where things happen for a reason.  Love doesn't pop up just because of passion and attraction.  So, I can't really explain this any better without giving too much away but I just didn't like how that whole change from friends to in love went down.

This books only 74 pages but it not only about the change from friend status to something more.  There is another secret that comes to play near the end.  It's a pretty big secret too.  And it took way too few pages for it to be revealed and resolved if you ask me.

The bottom line is that is story is sexy and steamy if a little too contrived.  If you read for the steam, then this is a good one for that.

  1. I almost took this for review since it was just a short novella, but I'm glad I passed. I still like the story to make sense, and in novella's things seem to get rushed a lot of the time. Either that or it's too convenient. I love novella's when they add to a story, but as stand alone's they are hit or miss with me. Great review. Sorry you didn't like this more.

  4. I usually only like novellas that are a part of a series. Rarely do I find a stand alone I like. Sorry you didn't care for this one.

  5. Oh, I've had this problem with a lot of novellas lately too. Everything just feels too rushed and unbelievable and I don't feel anything for the characters or romance. Sucks this one didn't work out for you. Great review!
