Character Interview & Giveaway ~ PAX from If You Stay by Courtney Cole

IF YOU STAY Synopsis:
24-year old Pax Tate is an asshole.
Seriously.
He’s a tattooed, rock-hard bad-boy with a bad attitude to match.
But he’s got his reasons.
His mother died when Pax was seven, leaving a hole in his heart filled with guilt although he doesn’t understand why. What he does know is that he and his dad are left alone and with more issues than they can count.
As Pax grew up, he tried to be the kid his father always wanted; the perfect golden boy, but it didn’t work. His dad couldn’t overcome his grief long enough to notice and Pax couldn’t keep up the impossible perfect façade.
So he slipped far, far from it.
Now, he uses drugs and women to cope with the ugliness, the black void that he doesn’t want to deal with. If he pretends that the emptiness isn’t there, then it isn’t, right?
Wrong.
And it’s never more apparent than when he meets Mila.
Sweet, beautiful Mila Hill is the fresh air to his hardened frown, the beauty to his ugly heart. He doesn’t know how to not hurt her, but he quickly realizes that he’s got to figure it out because he needs her to breathe.
When memories of his mother’s death resurface from where he’s repressed them for so long, Mila is there to catch him when the guilt starts making sense. Mila is the one…the one who can save him from his broken troubled heart; from his issues, from the emptiness.
But only if he can stop being an asshole long enough to allow it.
He knows that. And he’s working on it.
But is that enough to make her stay?

Hey Pax!  Thanks for hanging with me today.  Just finished reading your story and I have to say, I really love your way of artistic expression. ;)
Ha!  I love my….artistic expression too!   Thank you so much for having me here.
So tell me about that day Mila walked into your life.  At that point, how would you describe her?
Well, she has me at a disadvantage because I don’t remember her from that first night. But from the moment she walked into my hospital room, I’ve been fascinated by her…to this day.   Mila is a breath of fresh air. That’s the best way to describe her. She’s bright and beautiful and there’s a sort of ‘goodness’ about her that I can’t explain.
Now that you know her better, how would you describe her?
In exactly the same way.  Mila is very much a what you see is what you get kind of person.
Describe the perfect day.
It would involve Lake Michigan, my boat and Mila.  And we’d probably explore our sense of artistic expression out on open water.  *winks*
If you could go anywhere in the world with anyone, what would you do and with who?
I would love to go for a sail around the world with Mila.  Just her and I on a sailboat alone for weeks.  God only knows what we’d get up to.  Although, sailboats have a lot of rope.  We could work with that….
Are you happy?
Blissfully.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
I would fly.  Seriously.  Who wouldn’t choose the ability to fly?
So NOT asking you the “if you could change one thing” question but if you could talk to your mom for two minutes, what would you tell/ask her.
I would tell her that I love her. And I would tell her thank you.  I would also tell her that I try to make her proud of me now- every day.  I hope that I do.
This or that stuff - (Think I know most of them but anyways…)
Kiss or cuddle:  Kiss.  With tongue.
Mountains or ocean:  Ocean
Day or night:  Night
Rain or snow:  Rain
Blonde or brunette:  Brunette
Blue, green or brown eyes:  It used to be brown, but now that I met Mila, Green.  Hands down.
Coffee or Tea:  Coffee, black.
Boxer or brief:  Boxer Briefs

So I have one spoilery question for you.  I promise to hide the answer for those who haven’t read your story.  I’m even gonna hide the question.  Here goes. (If you have read the book and want to see this spoilery question and answer, highlight the blank area below.  You will be able to see it then.)

When you saw Mila walking down the aisle on Tony’s arm, what were you thinking?

I was thinking that she was the most beautiful woman on the face of the planet and I couldn’t believe that she was going to be mine.  I’m a very lucky man.  That’s what I was thinking.

Thanks so much for spending time with me today.

Thank YOU so much for having me. I promised Mila that I would keep my answers appropriate. I’ve tried my best.

Fabulous job, Pax. *winks*

About the author:

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people.

Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.
