Book Description:

Sometimes you just have to take flight.

A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

My Thoughts:

3 stars - A fresh idea for YA paranormal romance

I've never read a book about pteron.  I loved finding about this new, to me, shifter and a whole new lore.  The world was the type I like best, set in our normal present with the exception of some paranormal creatures living among us with all their politics.  I really enjoyed that aspect of this book.

I love this cover.  It truly called to me to read.  What's even better, is that that scene happens in the book right down to the black dress and hands against the wall.  Yeah, love it when that happens.

I am a very character driven reader.  I need to love the characters.  I didn't really have that happen this time.  Allie bugged me.  I liked that she was strong, determined and didn't take Levi's ego.  But, somehow, she just wasn't real for me.  She annoyed me too.  Her swearing off boys/men started it and then I had problems with some of her choices.

Levi actually appeals to me even though he makes one huge mistake that really wasn't cool at all.  I wanted to know his secrets and understand him better.  I was sad that he wasn't around as much as I wanted.  May have had me pouting.

The story itself moved will.  It's a mix of dialogue and summary.  There were a few places that I screamed no on the summary wanting more specifics.  The book is 260 pages and spans a full summer.  I really would have loved a little longer book that included more of Levi and Allie's relationship.

It's an interesting YA romance that has a fresh take on the paranormal world.  I like it and will read book 2, especially after that ending.

  1. I love this series. I like Ivy's writing. I think Levi makes this series for me. I know...you're shocked that I would be pulled in by a guy. ;) The second book is better than the first. IMO.

  3. SO I'm confused, When I saw the cover for the third book, he's got wings. Are these angel books? I keep thinking they are, but none of the reviews I have read say anything about angels. Anyways, I am really intrigued now. I have heard a lot of people say this is a unique series. Great review hon!!

    2. LOL, before I read this, I seriously thought he was an angel too bc I saw the cover for Found before reading it. BUT after reading it you'll learn he's a type of shifter. Loved Alyssa's world of creatures!

  4. Great review! I really loved this series and the whole Pteron concept was interesting. I like paranormal books that are set in the normal present to. The second book is really good, but if Allie aggravated you in book one, she may get on your nerves a little in book 2 - I got a little aggravated with her, but I still really liked it.

  5. Flight sounds like a great book. I love supernatural stories that take place in NOLA. Something about that city used for a setting really adds something special to a book.
I have not read anything about Pteron's (what is a Pteron?) before.
Thank you for the giveaway & great review :)

  6. I love this series and the Focus is even better! You have to read it soon! I do agree that Allie bugged me a little here and there. I can't exactly put it into words, but her actions weren't always favorable. I still enjoyed it as a whole, and I'm sure you'll like the rest of the series too. Gotta love Levi! Great review!
