The Ghost and the Goth by Stacey Kade

Source: bought it

My Summary:

Alona Dare has it all. She sits at the top the social ladder as 3-time Homecoming Queen and co-captain of the cheerleading squad. She’s a gorgeous blond, the envy of all the social misfits. Perfect, right? Well unless you count the alcoholic mother who still can’t face the divorce and remarriage of Alona’s dad. Oh and she just died. Maybe not so perfect.

Will is the opposite of Alona. He sits at the bottom of the social ladder. Not that he isn’t cute, but the dressing in black and strange behavior may be the cause. He’s only trying to avoid the ghosts that constantly talk to him. Staying low-key is the best way to get them to go away and for less people to notice when he acts…well different. Can’t hide from his very worried mother or overly involved shrink, though. Then there’s the principal who seems to have it out for him. If he could just manage a few more weeks, he’d graduate and get out of here. But then Alona dies and starting haunting him. Oh, he just needs a few more weeks…

My thoughts:

4 stars – a great read

So this book is funny and paranormal. It’s an interesting combination that I loved. Alona is the model classic blond cheerleader overly concerned with social status and appearances. Her comments are so funny and over the top sometimes but I loved her character. If you were looking for a polar opposite for Will, then Alona is it. The good news for Alona is that she is also very smart and strong but unfortunately she is hiding some clear family issues. It’s a great mix to make her endearing. Will is the classic misfit with a paranormal twist. He sees, hears and can touch the dead as did his father before him. He tries to hide this from everyone including his mother. He has also secretly admired Alona from afar. It’s a nice set-up for an interesting haunting.

This book is a quick fun read that I really enjoyed. I’m supposed to be reading review books but I needed a break so I threw this one in. I read it quickly, in about a day and a half. If you enjoy paranormal and could use a good laugh, then pick this one up.
